New Music Term, Let’s Start on a Positive Note!

Where does the time go? It only seems like 5 minutes ago that this school year was ending, and the kids were out for the summer holidays. Hopefully you managed to get through the last 6 weeks (relatively!) unharmed and you had chance to take advantage of the beautiful weather we had. If you were lucky enough to skip the country and bask in the sun on a beach somewhere, (I’m sure by now this seems like a distant memory) then you and the kids will be fresh faced and ready to start the new school year on a positive note! With that in mind, starting a new school year also means starting a new music year too. Perhaps your family is ready to take the next step and purchase your first secondhand piano, or maybe you are ready for an upgrade on your current model? Whatever your situation, we have 3 great reasons why second hand is a great option, for any budget and any skill level!

1. Green is best!
I know we all want to do our best to save the planet and try and reverse climate change. We recycle, don’t leave lights on, try not to waste water. Living a greener life also extents to how we make bigger purchases too. Buying a secondhand piano, is one of the ways we can do this. If you buy a secondhand piano from a reputable company, you know this piano will have been taken care of. It will have been checked out, re tuned and ready for you to enjoy! There is no reason a secondhand piano cannot play every bit as well as a brand new one! Buying a secondhand piano means you’re recycling something that still has lots of use and may otherwise fall into disrepair and eventually be discarded. What a waste! We all know how damaging to the planet cutting down trees has become. So, let’s not be part of the problem, let’s be part of the solution, let’s just buy secondhand?!

2. Reusing Materials
When you purchase a secondhand piano made from wood, you are actively saving a tree from being cut down. How much better does it get? We know the massive effect on the planet cutting down trees have on it. We are taking part in the destruction of our own habitat! Not to mention the millions of animals, bugs, birds, and other lifeforms that live either in the trees or rely on them for food, shelter or other means to survive. We want our children to grow up in a world where we have a healthy planet to leave them don’t, we? It sounds like such a tiny thing, but if we decided for our first piano purchase a secondhand first then moving onto buying new, wow, what an impact we could make??

3. Test is always best!
Buying secondhand when just starting out is really the best way to go. Obviously for reasons we’ve already stated but also for the most practical and cost-effective reason…what if you are just starting out and have never played the piano before? We know children do lose interest quickly! The best way to introduce them to a piano is by buying secondhand before buying new. You haven’t financially committed to a brand-new piano yet, but have instead chosen second hand, which is much for affordable. It is also very important that your child has access to a piano daily if they are to progress. Buying secondhand, they have the opportunity to do this in the comfort of their own home. You can help and monitor their progress and it hasn’t cost you the earth! Hasn’t cost the earth, whilst helping to save it. Win all round I would say!
